World Sleep Day 2025 Hungary
HUNGARY PRESS RELEASE BUDAPEST
World Sleep Day, held on the Friday before the Spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, is an event organised annually by the World Sleep Society since 2008. This year, they are calling attention to the importance of healthy sleep in almost 80 countries, at a time when people are having increased difficulty sleeping. Hungary joined the global programme fifteen years ago. This year, the Academy of Sciences held a scientific conference on new experiences and possibilities in research and healing. “The fact that close to one third of people do not get enough sleep is true for people all around the world: we abuse the possibilities offered by artificial light, with an increasing trend in extending our days to the detriment of our nights. The majority of Hungarian adults do not sleep well, so it is not surprising that a quarter of them wake up tired,” G. Németh György emphasised, President of the Hungarian Sleep Association. Presentations by sleep researchers and other experts talked of public health prevention, the amounts of sleep we need, timing the necessary sleep, sleep disorders, artificial intelligence, sleep flow, the relationship between sleep and work, and new global sleep trends.
The conference also acknowledged excellence in sleep culture: Pharma Nord and CARDO received Sleepfriendly Company Awards. This year’s Sleepfriendly Hotels were Hotel Carlton (Budapest); Lombdeluxe (Mátra), and Pikaia Lodge – Galápagos (Ecuador).
Conference speakers: Orsolya Baticz (State Secretariat of Health), Máté Benyovszky (AI, Budapest), Attila Gulyás (HUN-REN Institute of Experimental Medicine), Anita Juszkó (Hungarian Hotel and Restaurant Association), Richard Kiss-Róbert (Sleepfriendly International), Eszter Kun (Szinapszis Kft.), Zoltán Kun (World Place Health Professional), Timea Magyaródi (Budapest), Brigitta Pálffi (Hungarian Sleep Association), Gyula Timinszky (HUN-REN Biological Research Centre, Szeged), Gergely Vada (Fusion Vital).
